Our father, Jim Federico, passed away in June of 2015, just four months after his 80th birthday. He suffered from MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), and later, Acute Leukemia. Over the last two years of my father's life, he received 93 total units of blood and platelets. If it were not for the generosity of people who donate at blood drives and hospitals, we would have had far less time with him, and we never would have been able to enjoy watching him celebrate his 80th birthday with his grandchildren. Our family has once again joined with the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corp to sponsor their June Blood Drive. This is our way of both paying it forward, and showing our gratitude to those who gave. If you live outside of the area, find a blood donation center in your area and give #apintforjim.
